MetaRota FAQ

❓ What is MetaRota?

MetaRota is a Windows GUI tool built on ExifTool, designed to quickly rotate videos and images.
Instead of re-encoding the file, MetaRota rotates media by updating its rotation metadata (rotation tag).

❓ Does MetaRota re-encode videos?

No.

MetaRota only modifies the rotation tag:

-No recompression
-No pixel data changes
-No quality loss
-Extremely fast processing

❓ Why do some players not display the rotation correctly?

Whether the rotation is applied correctly depends on whether the player supports rotation metadata.

✅ Most modern players (Windows Photos, VLC, mobile media players) support it
❌ Some older players or certain editing software may ignore rotation tags

If your workflow relies on software that does not support metadata-based rotation, you may need to use physical rotation with re-encoding instead.

❓ Which file formats are supported?

Video : .mp4 / .mov / .m4v / .3gp
Image: .jpg / jpeg / .tiff / .heic / .dng

❓ What are MetaRota’s ideal use cases?

-Videos recorded on mobile devices with incorrect orientation
-Quickly fixing orientation for large batches of media files
-Users who require zero quality loss
-Users who want the power of ExifTool without using the command line

❓ Is MetaRota free?

Yes.
